My Prop Journal now has a native MCP server. Connect Claude AI directly to your journal and talk to your trading data in plain English — analyze performance, write trade reviews, build playbooks, log session notes, manage accounts, and more.

This is the most powerful way to interact with your journal yet. Everything you can do inside the app, you can now do through a conversation with Claude.

What Is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that allows AI assistants like Claude to connect directly to external data sources and tools. When Claude is connected to My Prop Journal via MCP, it has authenticated access to your trading data — your trades, accounts, performance metrics, playbooks, strategies, write-ups, report cards, session notes, and more.

Claude doesn't guess or make things up. It reads and writes your actual journal data in real time, with every request authenticated through your personal API key. Claude only ever sees your own data.

Server URL: https://mcp.mypropjournal.com/mcp

Requirements: All-Inclusive or AI Coach subscription tier

Two Ways to Connect

Method 1 — Claude Desktop (Mac & Windows)

The best option for desktop users. Edit your Claude Desktop config file to add the My Prop Journal MCP server:

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

Add the following to your config (merge with any existing mcpServers block):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mypropjournal": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.mypropjournal.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer mpj_your_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Replace mpj_your_key_here with your actual API key from Settings → API Keys, save the file, and fully restart Claude Desktop. You'll see a tool icon in the chat interface confirming My Prop Journal tools are active.

Method 2 — Claude.ai Web & Mobile

Works across the Claude web app, iOS, and Android — no config files needed.

  1. Go to claude.aiSettings → Connectors
  2. Click Add connector
  3. Set the name to MyPropJournal and the URL to https://mcp.mypropjournal.com/mcp
  4. Click Add — Claude.ai will redirect you to the My Prop Journal authorization page
  5. Enter your mpj_... API key and click Authorize
  6. You're connected — works immediately on web and mobile

Once authorized, Claude.ai stores the session. You won't need to re-authenticate unless your key is revoked. To disconnect, go back to Settings → Connectors and remove My Prop Journal.

What Claude Can Do — 73 Tools Across Your Entire Journal

Once connected, Claude has access to 73 tools covering every major feature of My Prop Journal. Here's what that looks like across each area of your journal.

Performance Analysis

Ask Claude to pull and interpret your performance data across any time period, account, symbol, strategy, or playbook:

  • Performance summary — P&L, win rate, profit factor, average win/loss, per-account and per-symbol breakdown
  • Calendar view — Daily P&L for any month, so you can spot your best and worst stretches
  • Time-of-day analysis — Win rate and net P&L grouped by hour to find your most and least profitable windows
  • Day-of-week analysis — Performance broken down by trading day
  • By playbook — Net P&L, win rate, and trade count per playbook so you know exactly which setups are working
  • By strategy — Same breakdown per strategy to see which entries and exits are performing

Example prompts:

"Give me a performance summary for this month. What's my win rate and profit factor?"

"What hour of the day am I most profitable? Show me my performance by hour."

"How is each of my playbooks performing? Rank them by net P&L."

"Which days of the week do I trade best?"

Trade Review & Analysis

Claude can pull your trades with full filtering — by date, symbol, direction, outcome, playbook, strategy, tags, R-ratio, and more — and help you analyze patterns across them.

Claude can also write directly to your trade reviews: update review notes, assign star ratings, link playbooks, mark criteria checklist items, set stop loss and take profit levels, and assign strategies to individual executions.

Example prompts:

"List my last 20 TSLA trades and tell me how I've been doing on the short side."

"Look at my losing trades from last week and identify any patterns."

"Review my last 5 trades and give each a star rating with notes on what I did well and what I could improve."

"Tag my last 10 trades with the 'revenge trade' tag if the review notes mention chasing."

"Update the criteria checklist on my TSLA trade from Monday — mark the volume confirmation criterion as passed."

Writing Trade Write-ups

Claude can draft, create, and update full trade write-ups. Give it the ticker, date, setup context, and what happened — and it writes a complete, structured write-up for you. Or have it pull the trade from your journal and draft the write-up based on the data it already has.

Example prompts:

"Write a trade writeup for my NVDA long trade from today. Entry was $890, exit $912, I used the breakout playbook."

"Update my TSLA write-up from yesterday to include that I missed the first entry signal."

Playbook & Strategy Management

Claude can read, create, and update your full playbook and strategy library — adding criteria, linking strategies to playbooks, updating rules, and organizing your development content.

Example prompts:

"Create a new playbook called 'VWAP Reclaim' and add 5 criteria for the setup."

"Add an entry rule to my breakout strategy: don't enter within 30 minutes of a major news event."

"Link my scaling out exit strategy to the VWAP Reclaim playbook."

"Show me chart book examples for my momentum playbook."

Session Notes & Quick Notes

Claude can create session notes, update them, and append quick notes tied to specific tickers — the same way you'd use the pop-out Quick Notes panel during a live session.

Example prompts:

"Create a session note for today's trading session. Volatile open, I took 3 trades in TSLA and 1 in SPY."

"Add a quick note to today's session: TSLA showed relative weakness at the open, worth watching for continuation."

"Summarize my session notes from this week."

Trading Plans

Claude can pull your full trading plans, create new ones, update existing content, and manage playbook associations — making it easy to keep your trade plan current without opening the editor.

Example prompts:

"Draft a trade plan for tomorrow's open. I'm watching AAPL at $195 and MSFT earnings reaction."

"Update my trading plan to increase my daily max loss limit to $500."

Report Cards

Claude can write, update, and retrieve your daily, weekly, and monthly report cards — pulling in your performance data for the period and drafting the review based on what actually happened.

Example prompts:

"Draft a weekly report card for last week covering my rule adherence and key takeaways."

"Create a daily report card for today. I had 4 trades, was profitable, but overtraded in the afternoon."

Trader's Notebook

Claude can read and write to your full Trader's Notebook — creating notes, organizing them into folders, and updating existing content.

Example prompts:

"Create a trader note in my Setups folder summarizing the VWAP reclaim setup I've been refining."

"Show me all the notes in my Market Observations folder."

Account & Payout Management

Claude has full access to your accounts — including creating accounts, updating balances, logging transactions, recording payouts, and reading account details.

Example prompts:

"Record a $2,500 payout on my TopstepTrader account."

"Log a $150 data fee transaction on my retail account for this month."

"Show me all my active accounts and their current balances."

Security

All connections run over HTTPS. Your API key is validated on every request using the same secure hashing system as the app. Subscription status is checked on every request — if your subscription lapses, access is automatically denied. Revoking a key in Settings → API Keys immediately cuts off access with no restart required. The MCP server connects directly to the same database as the app — your data never leaves your existing infrastructure.

For full security details, see the API Security documentation.

How to Get Started

  1. Make sure you're on the All-Inclusive or AI Coach planupgrade here if needed
  2. Go to Settings → API Keys in your account and generate a new key
  3. Choose your connection method:
    • Claude Desktop — edit your config file, restart the app
    • Claude.ai — add the connector in Settings, authorize with your key
  4. Start a conversation with Claude and ask it anything about your journal

For step-by-step setup instructions and troubleshooting, see the full MCP Integration documentation.

MCP integration requires an All-Inclusive or AI Coach subscription. The My Prop Journal MCP server is purpose-built for Claude but is compatible with any AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol.
